Meet The Midwife
I was born and raised in Interior Alaska around a large, loud and loving family. I have four sweet children (who were all born with the help of midwives) and an awesome husband who I literally could not do any of this without, Levi, my love. My first time giving birth was so transforming, so empowering, that I began the long journey of becoming a midwife myself. I will never forget what it is like to grow a baby, take responsibility for my health, take a proactive role, and give birth with my own choices at the forefront of my midwife's care, and that is my goal: to empower one person at a time to find their own strength, which greatly benefits the whole family throughout the child rearing years and the community beyond. Each and every client's culture, beliefs, and faith is respected, acknowledged and advocated for in my care, no matter your background. There is a midwife who is right for every one, and every one deserves a midwife of their own. ~ Melanie Hansen
What Is Midwifery?
The art and science of midwifery is one of the world's oldest professions. Midwives provide complete maternity care from pre-conception counseling, full prenatal care, 24-hour on-call service for labor, birth out of the hospital in the setting of your choice, to postpartum care for parents and baby, lactation support and many other services. The midwifery model of care is one that puts the client and their choices first. It is individualized and evidence-based. When one discovers midwifery, their eyes are opened to how empowering birth can actually be. Welcome to the truth that more and more people are becoming aware of: that birth with trained, professional midwives is respectful, safe, and sacred. What a wonderful way to start your parenting journey!
Professional Midwifery Services
Complete Maternity Care
Prenatal visits follow the standard schedule of once every 4 weeks until 28 weeks pregnant, then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and then weekly until you begin labor. Prenatal visits are done in your home, and are as long as an hour, depending on your needs, leaving plenty of time for questions to be answered. You get the latest evidence-based information for you to make decisions that are right for you about all procedures, recommended tests, nutrition, exercise, and therapies. At every visit your blood pressure, baby's heart rate, growth, and your well-being are monitored, with time for relaxing bodywork after most appointments. I draw and order the standard obstetric labs, offering additional labs such as Vitamin D or Thyroid levels if desired. I provide attentive monitoring and safe, knowledgeable care for the most important day of your life: the birth of your child. You have been prepared and educated throughout the course of your care about labor and birth, and you will be so proud of yourself when you accomplish this amazing feat. I monitor and care for you and baby 4 to 6 hours after the birth, then provide homevisits at 24-36 hours, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks postpartum.
Birth Pool Rental

I deliver the supplies to you, cleaned and sanitized and I handle cleaning and sanitizing afterwards as well. The cost to rent the package is $85.
